CAMBRIDGE – The Tufts University men's squash team was defeated 8-1 by Bates College in a match between NESCAC teams played at Harvard University on Friday night.
Bates is ranked 20th in the College Squash Association national poll this week and the Jumbos are at #24. The win evened the Bobcats' record at 6-6 while Tufts fell to 4-8.
The Jumbos were competitive in a losing effort. Their lone win came in five games while they also competed to four games in three matches. They scored over 25 points in a trio of three-game losses as well.
Senior co-captained Brett Raskopf outdueled Benni McCommish from Bates in the seventh match. Raskopf went long for a 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 victory.
Jumbos Marco Rodriguez at #3, Alan Litman at #4 and Aidan Porges at #8 played four games. Litman and Porges both had 1-0 leads before their opponents rallied to win the match.
The #2 match between Tufts' Konrad Ladow and Bates' Mahmoud Yousry was a very challenging three games including a 17-15 score in the middle. Ladow earned 29 points in the loss. Likewise, both Dillon O'Shea at #5 and Salik Awan at #9 played tough in losses for the Jumbos, winning 26 points each.
Bates #1 Graham Bonnell scored an 11-7, 11-2, 11-6 win over Tufts' Raghav Kumar.
The Jumbos will face Hobart on Saturday in a match to be played at Mount Holyoke College. The Bobcats follow the same script with a match against Hobart at Mount Holyoke Saturday morning.
