Sophomore Will Dewire won for the Jumbos in the seventh spot |
MEDFORD – Sophomore Will Dewire picked up a five-game win in the seventh position, but it wasn't enough as the No. 24 Tufts men's squash team fell to No. 15 Brown at the Tufts Squash Center on Tuesday evening.
The Jumbos are now 5-8 after the setback. Brown improves to 6-8 with the win.
Dewire picked up a win for the Jumbos in the seventh spot, battling with Nicholas Pitaro. Pitaro won the first game, 11-7, but Dewire battled back to take the second, 11-9. Pitarto went ahead in the third game with a 11-8 win but then Dewire evened things at two with an 11-6 win in game four. Dewire won the fifth game 11-8 to gain a point for the Jumbos.
Senior Raghav Kumar pushed Grant Sterman to four games in the second position. Sterman won the first game, 11-6, but Kumar took the second 11-5. Sterman picked up 11-7 wins in games three and four. Senior Amun Sahrawat also battled his Bear opponent to four games in the ninth position. Raghav Pemmireddy won the first game 11-5 before Sahrawat took the second 11-9. Pemmireddy claimed 11-5 and 11-4 wins in the next two games to earn the win.
Freshman Kunal Valia forced the third game to extra points in the first position, but wasn't able to top Maximo Moyer. Sophomore Konrad LaDow fell to Andrew Wei in the third position, but did score 23 points across three games. Sophomore Marco Rodriguez took on Declan McCarthy in the fourth position, but fell in three games. Rookie Vivaan Jaikishan faced off with Ahmed Amin in the fifth position, but wasn't able to pull off the win.
Sophomore Dillon O'Shea and took the second game to extra points in the sixth position, but Harrison Boyer earned the win. Junior Salik Awan scored 24 points across three games in the eighth position, but fell to Blake Gilbert-Bono.
The Jumbos are back in action on Wednesday when they face off with No. 2 Harvard at 5 pm. Brown plays again on February 28 when they head to the College Squash Association Team Championships.
