CLINTON, N.Y. - The last time that the Tufts University men's squash team played Hamilton College, the Jumbos lost 5-4 to the Continentals early in the 2017-18 season. The Tufts team has made some strides since then, as today they opened their 2021-22 season with a 9-0 victory at Hamilton.
Tufts, ranked 18th nationally, won six matches in three games and the other three in four games against the #27 Continentals. Freshman Kerwin Teh (pictured) had a fantastic debut for Tufts winning 11-3, 11-5, 11-2 in the third position. Junior Jumbo Sanjeev Jeyabalan had an 11-8 win in the first game of the #4 match before rolling to 11-3 and 11-2 wins. Junior Kunal Valia was similarly successful in the second spot (11-5, 11-5, 11-5), and sophomore Harry Charlton won his collegiate debut in the top match over Hamilton's Tate Suratt 11-9, 11-4, 11-6.
Of the thee four-game matches, senior Marco Rodriguez's was the most exciting as he came back from down a game to win 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-2. Junior Shloke Sahay broke out of a 1-1 tie in the ninth match to win 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6.
The Jumbos have matches against Hobart and Connecticut College tomorrow back at Hamilton.
