CLINTON, N.Y. - The Tufts University men's squash team lost just one game while posting a pair of victories over Hobart and Connecticut College today in matches played at Hamilton College. The Jumbos (3-0) won 8-1 against the Statesmen (3-4) and 8-0 versus the Camels (0-3).
In the Hobart match, the Jumbos won five times in four games and the other three in three games. In the #1 spot, sophomore Harry Charlton lost the first game against Mohamed Abdelhafez 11-8 before coming back with three in a row 11-7, 11-9, 11-9. Dillon O'Shea in the sixth match and Marco Rodriguez in the seventh spot also lost their first game before winning three straight.
Freshman Kerwin Teh had the easiest win for Tufts, recording an 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 victory in the third position. Konrad LaDow also had a solid eighth-position win 11-6, 11-6, 11-4. The lone Hobart victory came at #2 by Omar Kiwan (11-9, 11-1, 11-6).
Tufts then cruised past Connecticut College later in the day posting seven of their eight victories in three games. Shloke Sahay (pictured) won quickly by 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 scores in the sixth match. Freshman Oliver Eielson had an 11-0 shutout in his first game at #7 and then swept the match 11-4 and 11-4. Aryaman Pandya won 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 in his eighth match. Connecticut College did not have a ninth player in their line-up.
While the rest of his teammates made quick work of their opponents, Kunal Valia had to go five sets for a victory. And it was impressive, as he battled back from down two games to win 9-11, 9-11, 14-12, 11-7, 11-8.
Sanjeev Jeyabalan and Vivaan Jaikishan were two of a handful of Jumbos who won both of their matches on Saturday
The Jumbos will host second-ranked Harvard at Tufts Squash Center on November 30.
