MEDFORD - Visiting Williams College, the 16th-ranked team nationally, earned a 6-3 victory at #18 Tufts University in a competitive NESCAC men's squash match played Thursday at Tufts Squash Center.
The Jumbos (4-2) jumped out to a 2-1 lead against the Ephs (1-2) as freshmen Oliver Eielson (pictured) and Kerwin Teh won matches for Tufts and William Evans won for Williams. Eielson in the #9 spot fell behind 1-0 before winning 10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-2. Teh in the #3 match and Evans at #4 both won in three straight.
The Ephs surged to a 4-2 lead with wins by Udai Pal at #2, Pierce Henderson at #8 and A.J. Solecki at #6. The sixth match saw Solecki win in three against Tufts' Dillon O'Shea (8-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-4), while the other two finished in three.
The remaining three matches were all tied at 1-1. However, Williams' Andrew Minnis went on to a 4-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 victory in the seventh spot to clinch the team win for the Ephs. Tufts' Harry Charlton won at the top spot 3-1 over Jacob Bassil (8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-9).
This was the final competition of the fall semester for Tufts. The Jumbos will travel to face #8 Virginia on January 10.
