PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 17th-ranked Tufts University Men's Squash team returned to play Saturday afternoon for the first time in 2022 and were narrowly defeated, 5-4, by No. 19 Brown University
The Jumbos fall to a 4-3 record while the Bears improve to 2-4 on the season.
Junior Sanjeev Jeyabalan (pictured) picked up an exciting five set win in the third position against Brown's Ahmed Amin. It was an up and down battle that ultimately went Jevabalan's way with scores of 11–9, 3-11, 11-7, 3-11, 11-9. Freshman Oliver Eielson in the 7th slot was impressive with a three set sweep over Samuel Lew (11-3, 11-4, 17-15). Junior Shloke Sahay also picked up a sweep when he defeated Andrew Willwerth in the eight position with scores of 11-2, 11-7, 11-1. Rounding out the Tufts line-up in the 9th slot and picking up a four set victory was sophomore Krish Shah with scores of 10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7.
Sophomore Harry Charlton competed in the first position for the Jumbos, and after an up and down contest, he would drop the match in five sets to Grant Sterman. In other close matches senior Dillon O'Shea in the 5th position and senior co-captain Marco Rodriguez dropped four set matches, while senior co-captain Vivaan Jaikishan fell in the fourth position.
The Jumbos return home and to action Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. when they face NESCAC opponent and No. 21 Amherst College. The Bear's square up against Connecticut College next Thursday, January 27th at 5 pm.
