Men's Soccer Draws 0-0 with #6 Bowdoin In Regular Season Finale

MEDFORD, MA – On a rainy night at Bello Field Tufts drew even with #6 Bowdoin 0-0 for the final game of the regular season.

It was a back-and-forth affair for the NESCAC matchup to determine final positions in the standings going into the playoffs. The match started out very physical and you could feel both teams wanting to get the three points in their last matches.

Bowdoin's best chance on the night came in the 15th minute of play when Felipe Rueda Duran split two Tufts defenders in the corner broke free and put a low hard cross into the feet of Charlie Ward. Ward took his touch and looked to have a shot, but it was evidently broken up by Alex Wall.

Coming out of the halftime, both sides were looking to change the game and add a tally to their score. In the 66th minute of play Ian Daly was able to take the sideline and get to the corner where he played a ball into the box to Zach Seigelstein who flicked it onward with the outside of his foot to an open Mateo Bargagna at the top of the box. Bargagna had a one-time hit that went over the top of the cross bar.

After holding possession for majority of the second half, the Jumbos were looking to score a late winner to put them past the Polar Bears. It was in the 83rd minute that a hand ball was called on a Bowdoin defender. This set up a free kick from about 20 yards out from the goal. Daniel Yanez lined up to take the kick as the Jumbos main set piece taker. Yanez had a go for goal, and he placed the ball beautifully into the top left corner but was shut down with a spectacular diving save from Michael Weber of Bowdoin. This eventually led to a hold on the remainder of the game at 0-0.

Tufts put on 16 shots on the night while Bowdoin attempted four of their own. Tufts earned seven corners throughout the game while Bowdoin were awarded six. Erik Lauta for the Jumbos made one save in the match while opposite him Michael Weber came out with four saves.

Tufts finished the regular season with a record of 7-2-6, 3-2-5 while Bowdoin finished 11-1-3, 6-1-3. The Jumbos will next play in the first round of the NESCAC tournament this Saturday with their opponent yet to be determined.
