LANCASTER, PA (November 19, 2022) -- The No. 15 Tufts University men's squash squad dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to No. 16 Franklin & Marshall College in the 2022-23 season opener, hosted by the Diplomats in the F&M Squash Courts.
The Jumbos (0-1) did their damage in the middle of the ladder, showing their strength and depth through the roster. Tufts picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 and at No. 7 and No. 8.
Sanjeev Jeyabalan's had a big win came with the Jumbos 3-3 in the match, while Jared Chin and
Vivaan Jaikishan each had victories. Chin started the wins for Tufts with a 3-1 triumph, as he picked up an 11-4, 13-11, 5-11 and 11-4 win over Noah Katzer at No. 7.

Oliver Eielson also outlasted at No. 6, as he posted a late rally to pick up an 6-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9 and 11-8 win. Jaikishan fell in the opening game 11-6, but responded with three straight victories for a 6-11, 11-2, 11-8 and 11-7 win at the No. 8 spot.
Newcomer Youssef Ezzo would pick up a big win at the No. 4 position, as he chalked up 11-7 and 11-4 wins, and fought off a rally by Marco DiFilippo to clinch the match in the fourth game with an 11-9 victory. Eight of the nine matches on the day went at least four games, as
Kunal Valia dropped a thrilling 3-2 decision at No. 2, falling to Jordan Sprecher 11-8, 9-11, 5-11, 11-9 and 11-9.
The longest match of the day came at No. 3, as
Kerwin Teh dropped a 12-10, 11-3, 8-11, 11-6 decision to Kyle Broadhurst in a match that went over an hour. At No. 1,
Harry Charlton battled but lost 11-8, 11-3, 8-11 and 11-5.
Krish Shah also picked up an exhibition win for the Jumbos.
The Jumbos will be back in action Sunday at 11 a.m. in Philadelphia, taking on No. 2 University of Pennsylvania in action from the Penn Squash Center.
