MIDDLETOWN, CT (December 10, 2022) - Senior
Peter LaBarge won a pair of freestyle races and anchored a 200 freestyle relay victory helping the Tufts University men's swimming & diving team win against two out of three opponents at a quad meet hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday.
The Jumbos topped the host Cardinals 262-54, and also handled WPI easily 266-51. Tufts was defeated by Williams College 183-138.
LaBarge's time of 20.23 seconds won the 50 freestyle early in the meet. He returned with a 44.75 victory in the 100 freestyle later in the day. In the final event he was joined by freshman
Armaan Sikka, sophomore
Charlie Duffy and sophomore
Eric Lundgren for the 200 free relay which won in a 1:22.04Â time.
Lundgren added a 1:47.32 victory in the 200 backstroke. Classmate
Ethan Schreier had a first-place finish of 49.81 for the 100 butterfly. Junior
Tim Chou also had one of Tufts' six wins at the meet in the 200 butterfly where he posted a 1:52.01 finish. Four of Tufts' wins came among the final five swimming events.
In the 400 individual medley, Lundgren led Tufts in second place with a 4:02.28 mark. Sikka, who contributed four top-three finishes on the day, was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:41.61). Sophomore
Emmett Adams (25.72 in the 50 breast) and junior
Willie Xu (2:03.62 in the 200 breast) also recorded second-place scores for Tufts.
Brothers Zach and
Jeremy Lawrence traded second and third positions in the diving events. Jeremy's 274.20 score in three-meter was ahead of Zach's 272.25 for third. For one-meter, Zach's 255.25 was second and Jeremy's 244.40 took third.
This was the final competition of the fall semester for Tufts. They will return to action on January 15 at Brandeis.
