MEDFORD, MA (December 9, 2022) -- The Tufts University men's squash team battled against one of the storied programs in collegiate squash Friday night, but the No. 6 Trinity College Bantams were too much as the Jumbos dropped a 9-0 decision in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opener.
The Jumbos (2-4, 0-1 NESCAC) saw some solid performances despite the losses, as
Kunal Valia and
Kerwin Teh both took games at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. At No. 1,
Harry Charlton fell in three games with scores of 11-6, 11-5 and 11-2, and Valia dropped his first two sets before taking the third game 11-8. In the end Valia would fall in four games with scores of 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-0.
At No. 3 Teh continued his very inspired play of late as he took the third set over Abdelrahman Nassar 11-9 but couldn't rally in a four-game loss with scores of 11-3, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5. At No. 4,
Oliver Eielson dropped an 11-5, 11-2 and 11-8 decision, while Thursday's match-winning hero
Jared Chin was bested at No. 5 by Danial Izham 11-4, 11-3 and 11-3.
Vivaan Jaikishan pushed Khamal Cumberbatch to the limit in the first set, falling 13-11 before dropping the other two games 11-6 and 11-0 at No. 6.
Rohan Valia also played well at No. 7 but couldn't earn a game in a 12-10, 11-9 and 11-7 defeate, and
Krish Shah moved into the starting lineup but was bested 11-5, 11-3 and 11-9 at No. 8.
The Jumbos saw
Shloke Sahay drop a straight set loss to Will Curtis at No. 9 11-4, 11-8 and 11-6, while
Sam Charlton was topped by Advait Adik in exhibition action 11-2, 11-5 and 11-5.
Tufts is done for the remainder of 2022, but returns to action early in the New Year as it heads across the country to take on Stanford University Wednesday, January 4 at noon local time in Palo Alto, California.
