Women's Cross Country is Runner-Up at Smith

NORTHAMPTON – Sophomore Carly Rinko led the Jumbos in third place individually at the Smith College Co-Ed Invitational women's race Saturday, where Tufts was second as a team.

Rinko ran 19:36.6 for third, edging Ashleigh Kelley from Regis (19:41.8) at the finish line. Smith's Laurel Kruger won the race (19:18.7). Rinko's finish led Tufts to a team score of 49 score that was behind only host Smith College (21). Trinity College was third (99).

First-year Gwenyth Stach was in the top 10 for her collegiate debut today, running 20:10.8 for the five kilometers. Sophomore Rose Kitz added a good season debut at 20:32.5 for 13th overall and third on the team.

Two more first-years also scored for Tufts. Eleanor Tyne was 15th overall with a 20:36.5 mark and Eliana Montgomery was next in a 20:37.7 finish. Classmate Vivian Lau also came across the finish line in the top 20 (21:04.4).

Eighty-nine runners overall finished the race.

Tufts continues its start to the new season at the Pineland Shootout hosted by Bates next week.
