Men's Squash Knocks Off No. 18 Amherst Saturday

Final Results

AMHERST, MA – The 16th-ranked Tufts University Men's Squash team earned a 5-4 victory over NESCAC opponent Amherst College on Saturday afternoon.  The Jumbos improve to a 4-3 overall record while the No. 19 Mammoths fall to 5-3 on the season.

It was hard fought victory for the Jumbos with five of the afternoon's matches going to five sets.  Senior Kunal Valia, sophomore Oliver Eielson, senior  Vivaan Jaikishan, and freshmen Jared Chin and  Rohan Valia all saw extra sets for the Jumbos. 

Oliver Eielson defeated Matthew Granovsky with scores of 3-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 8-11 in the sixth position.  Vivaan Jaikishan battled for a 3-2 win over Grady Herbert in the seventh position and Rohan Valia contributed to the Tufts win with a victory over Nathaniel Mosse (11-9, 11-13, 8-11, 13-11, 11-3) in the 9th position. 

Other highlights for the Jumbos came from a 3-1 win by senior Sanjeev Jeyabalan in the fifth slot and 3-0 sweep by Harry Charlton in the first position.  Charlton defeated the Mammoth's Kedar Nagaraj with scores of 18-16, 11-1, and 11-5.

The Jumbos return to play at home against Bowdoin College on Thursday, Jan. 19th, at 4:00pm.  Bowdoin is currently 4-8 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
