WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (January 21, 2023) - The No. 14 Tufts University men's squash team fell 2-7 in NESCAC play at 15th-ranked Williams College. The Jumbos are now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play while the Ephs improve to 10-4 and remain unbeaten in the NESCAC at 6-0.
Sophomore
Kerwin Teh in the third position and senior
Vivaan Jaikishan in the seventh position would pick up the only Jumbo wins for the afternoon. In a thrilling 5 set match, Teh dropped the first two sets 9-11 and 5-11 before battling back to win 11-5, 11-9 and 13-11 in the last three sets. Jaikishan also got pushed to extra points but was able to knock off Alex Akbari in four sets with scores of 16-14, 12-10, 4-11, 11-6.
Three other matches would be decided in five sets with the wins going to the Ephs. Sophomore
Oliver Eielson in the sixth slot, and freshmen
Jared Chin and
Rohan Valia in the eighth and ninth positions would all fall in close five set contests. Junior
Harry Charlton in the first position, sophomore
Youssef Ezzo in the fourth slot, and seniors
Kunal Valia (second position) and
Sanjeev Jeyabalan (fifth slot) would all fall in straight sets for the Jumbos.
The Jumbos are back in action at 11:00am tomorrow, January 22nd, for another NESCAC match-up at Middlebury College. The No. 22 Panthers are currently 9-4 on the season and 4-3 in the NESCAC.
