MIDDLEBURY, VT (January 22, 2023) -- The No. 11 Tufts University men's squash team responded from Saturday's defeat at Williams College with a Sunday sweep of host and No. 22 Middlebury College 9-0 in action from Bostwick Family Squash Center.
The Jumbos (5-5, 3-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference) got things started with a quick three-game win for
Kerwin Teh at No. 3, as he posted an 11-9, 11-6 and 11-6 win over Caleb Boateng to put Tufts up 1-0. Teh moved to 6-4 on the season and has won three straight.
At No. 6,
Oliver Eielson fell behind by two games but rallied with a furious comeback to win in five games as he recorded a win of 6-11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-6 and 11-8 over Theo Kogan. The Jumbos would sweep the early wave at No. 8 with another five-game victory, this time coming from
Jared Chin over Alexis Ballo with scores of 6-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-3 and 11-5.
Tufts moved to within one of a clinching win after
Harry Charlton picked up a victory at No. 1 over Nathan Feinstein with scores of 11-9, 11-8 and 11-3. The decisive win would come from No. 9
Rohan Valia over Alex Stimpson, as he posted a three-game victory with scores of 11-2, 12-10 and 11-8. Valia picked up his fourth win of the season, moving to 4-3 on the campaign.
The winning continued at No. 5 for the Jumbos, as
Sanjeev Jeyabalan moved to 7-2 on the year with a four-game victory over PK Keller with scores of 11-3, 11-7, 9-11 and 14-12.
Kunal Valia knocked off William Lichstein at No. 2 to make it 7-0 Tufts after his 11-4, 11-3 and 11-4 win.
Vivaan Jaikishan would continue amazing play this year with another win at No. 7, as he upped his win total in 2022-23 to a team-high eight with a 11-7, 11-4, 7-11, 11-5 win. The final victory came at No. 4, as
Youssef Ezzo rolled to a 11-5, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7 win over Kian Kardestuncer to finish the play Sunday.
The Jumbos will host No. 27 Wesleyan University on Friday, January 27 at 5 p.m. in the Tufts Squash Center in more NESCAC action.
