HAMILTON, NY (January 28, 2023) -
Eric Lundgren and
Emmett Adams had the fastest times in two events each and
Zach Lawrence won both diving events as the Tufts men's swimming & diving team swept a tri-meet against Hamilton College and RPI on Saturday.
Competed at Colgate University, Tufts won 163.5 - 69.5 against Hamilton and had a 152 - 85 win over RPI.
Lundgren won the 200 freestyle early in the meet with a 1:43.39 time, then later had a 47.30 victory in the 100 free. Adams recorded a time of 22.06 seconds to tie for first place in the 50 freestyle (with Hamilton's Ben Howell), and also swam 2:08.81 to lead the 200 breaststroke.
Lundgren and Adams were also part of Tufts' winning 200 medley relay to start the meet. Joined by
Ethan Schreier and
Charlie Duffy, they combined for a 1:33.47 time.
Lawrence's first-place scores in the diving events were 293.05 in three-meter and 281.05 for one-meter. The Jumbos took the top three sports in each diving competition.
Evan Szablewski added another win to his distance season with a 10:09.61 time in the 1,000 freestyle. In the 500 freestyle later in the day,
Brian Uribe was second for Tufts at a 4:56.41 touch.
To close out the men's meet,
Tim Chou, Schreier,
Nate Pfeffer and
Will Stearns won the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:27.13 mark. Other Jumbo victories came from freshman
Connor Townson in the 200 individual medley with a 1:55.74 race, and
Vedant Bapna with his 1:55.62 swim in the 200 backstroke.
Pfeffer had the top Jumbo finish in the 200 butterfly (1:56.56). Chou was also second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.09) and Schreier was runner-up with a 48.05 time for the 100 free.
For RPI, Tony Min won the 200 fly with a 1:53.54 finish ahead of Pfeffer, and Andrew Parker swam 4:55.85 ahead of Uribe in the 500 free.
Tufts closes its regular-season at the BU Winter Open next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 3-4).
