MEDFORD, MA (October 14, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's soccer team hosted the inaugural Scott Greenwood Memorial Match on Saturday afternoon, honoring their former star goalkeeper with a 3-1 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory over visiting Bates College in play from Bello Field.
Greenwood, who was a standout between the pipes for the Jumbos from 2013-2016, tragically passed away last year and the Tufts men's soccer team and alumni came together to honor him Saturday prior to the contest with a moment of silence.
Once the contest got underway the Jumbos wasted no time getting on the board as
Ben Verner headed in a
Daniel Yanez corner kick in the fifth minute. That's where the contest would stay until the 57th minute, when senior
Max Clivio hammered home a low cross from
Ethan Feigin to double the Tufts lead.
In the 69th minute, senior
Mikey Brady put away another beautiful cross from
Gibson Campbell to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Jumbos. Bates got a late tally from Tife Agunloye, but it wasn't enough as the Jumbos rolled their second straight win. The Jumbos also have now extended their unbeaten streak to eight games.
Tufts outshot the Bobcats 18-5 on the day, while holding a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. The Jumbos also took four corner kicks on the day compared to just two from Bates.
The Jumbos will have a quick turnaround, taking on Williams College at 2:30 p.m. on Bello Field in another big NESCAC contest.
