ITHACA, NY (December 2, 2023) -- The No. 12 Tufts University men's squash team pushed its record back above .500 in the first of two matches at Cornell University this weekend, knocking off No. 16 Chatham University 8-1 Saturday morning from the Belkin Squash Courts.
The Jumbos avenged a 6-3 loss to the Cougars in the 2023 College Squash Association Hoehn Cup from a season ago, thanks to strong play throughout the lineup Saturday. Tufts got on the board quick with a dominant win at No. 9, as
Shivin Kumar bested Obed Roman Garcia 11-1, 11-3 and 11-3 to give the Jumbos the early lead.
Jared Chin moved to 2-1 on the season with a four-set victory at No. 5 over Haidar Jafry with scores of 11-5, 11-3, 8-11 and 11-0, while
Harry Charlton helped sweep the first wave of action with a straight-game win over Jared Nalliah at No. 1 11-7, 11-7 and 11-2. First-year
Rutva Samant picked up his second win of the season at No. 7 to give the Jumbos a 4-0 lead, earning a 14-12, 13-11 and 11-8 win.
After Chatham earned its only win at No. 2, Tufts clinched the team win at No. 4 as
Youssef Ezzo bested Agustin Carranza in five hard-fought games 12-10, 6-11, 5-11, 12-10 and 11-6. Moments after that match finished,
Emerson Wang earned an 11-3, 11-9 and 12-10 win at No. 8 to make the score 6-1.
Sanjeev Jeyabalan picked up a straight set victory at No. 3 11-5, 11-8 and 11-5, and first-year
Nachiket Desai moved to 2-1 with an 11-2, 12-14, 11-8 and 11-5 win to finish the action.
Tufts will turn right around and take on No. 9 Cornell Sunday at noon in action from Belkin Squash Courts.
