WILLIAMSTOWN, MA (February 12, 2023) -- The No. 16 Tufts University men's squash team battled hard in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament semifinals, but couldn't knock off host Williams College in falling 6-3 to the Ephs in action from Simon Squash Center.
The Jumbos, who were making their first trip to the NESCAC semifinals in program history, got wins at No. 3, No. 8 and No. 9 but the Ephs controlled the middle of the draw to advance to the NESCAC finals.
Kerwin Teh earned a strong victory at No. 3, as he topped Andrew Minnis 11-9, 11-3 and 11-6. Senior captain
Vivaan Jaikishan pulled out a marathon win at No. 8, as he topped Cam Darnell 13-11, 9-11, 11-3, 9-11 and 11-3.
At No. 9,
Rohan Valia won in straight games with scores of 11-7, 11-4 and 11-7.
Youssef Ezzo battled at No. 4, rallying with a game three win but couldn't complete the comeback in falling 13-11, 11-3, 7-11 and 11-7. Despite dropping three games at No. 2,
Kunal Valia battled in a 37 minute match before falling 11-3, 11-7 and 11-2.
At No. 5,
Sanjeev Jeyabalan also played well but didn't get the bounces in dropping a 41-minute match to Jack Lee 11-9, 11-7 and 11-5.
Jared Chin fell 11-2, 11-6 and 11-8 at No. 7, while
Harry Charlton was topped at No. 1
Harry Charlton 11-8, 11-2, 11-6. At No. 6,
Oliver Eielson was defeated by Pierce Henderson 11-5, 11-4 and 11-5.
The Jumbos will now travel to the College Squash Association National Championships February 24-26 in Hartford, CT.
