MEDFORD, MA (February 22, 2023) -- The Tufts University men's squash program will battle in the Hoehn Cup this weekend at the 2023 College Squash Association Championships, battling teams ranked No. 9 through No. 16 in the second-highest ranked bracket at the tournament. All matches will be played at Trinity College and Wesleyan University in Hartford, CT and Middletown, CT.

The Jumbos come into this weekend's matches after going 9-7 during the regular season, having knocked off Middlebury College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament before falling in the semifinals to No. 14 Williams College 6-3. Tufts is ranked No. 15 in the recent rankings coming into this weekend, and has played three of the eight teams in the Hoehn Cup including its first round opponent Dartmouth College.
Back on December 4, Dartmouth came to Medford and knocked off the Jumbos 6-3 as Tufts got wins by
Kerwin Teh,
Sanjeev Jeyabalan and
Vivaan Jaikishan. It was a very competitive match with the Big Green, as five of the nine matches needed more than three games. The Jumbos have also already played Williams College twice, as well as Franklin & Marshall College, both of whom are included in the Hoehn Cup.
The Jumbos have been playing some of their best squash of the season of late, and are a combined 81-63 on the season. Tufts has been paced on the season with a 13-3 record from Jaikishan, as he has won two straight and nine of his last 10 matches overall. He has also gone a perfect 5-0 at No. 7 this season. Right behind him in the win column is Jeyabalan, who is 10-5 on the season. Teh has also been strong at No. 3 this year, going 9-5 overall.
Sophomore
Youssef Ezzo has stepped in his first season for the Jumbos and played well at No. 4, going 8-6 overall while Rohan Vallia has held down the No. 9 spot with an 8-4 overall mark and 7-3 at the final position in the lineup.
Jared Chin has posted some big wins for the Jumbos this year, going 7-7 on the season, and Rohan and
Kunal Valia have combined for 14 victories. Tufts' top player,
Harry Charlton, has picked up six wins at the No. 1 position, and five of his 10 losses have gone four or five games.
This is the the Jumbos first time in the Hoehn Cup, after finishing as the Summers Cup runner-up to the Naval Academy in 2022. In last year's Summers Cup, Tufts knocked off Bates College and St. Lawrence University before falling 5-4 in the finals to Navy.
On the other side of the Hoehn Cup draw, No. 9 Columbia will take on No. 16 F&M with the winner of that tilt battling the winner of Western Ontario and the University of Rochester. The winner of Tufts-Dartmouth match will battle the victor of the Chatham University and Williams match.
Dartmouth has won two straight matches at Williams and Brown university after a four-match skid. The Big Green are paced by Mac Aube, Auggie Bhavsar and Chris Zachary, all with seven wins on the season. Jack Bell plays No. 1 for Dartmouth and is 2-12 on the campaigh, while Aube has played all 14 of his matches at No. 2. Lucan White also has six wins for Dartmouth, who comes into the Cup as the "No. 2" seed behind just Columbia.
