MIDDLETOWN, CT (February 26, 2023) - The Tufts University men's squash team finished their season Sunday morning falling in the Hoehn Cup consolation playoff game to the University of Rochester in a tightly contested 5-4 matchup at Wesleyan University.

The Jumbos were able to win the bottom four matches as both
Oliver Eielson in the No. 6 position and
Vivaan Jaikishan in the No. 8 position both won their matches in straight sets. Eielson defeated Quinlan Jeudy 11-8, 11-8, and 11-8 while Jaikishan was victorious over Nicholas Gill 11-7, 11-4, and 11-4.

In the No. 7 position was
Jared Chin who defeated Nicholas Gill by winning both the fourth and fifth sets. Chin won the first set 11-7, but then dropped the next two sets as both went into extra points, 12-10 and 13-11. Chin then rallied in the final two sets to secure the victory over Gill, 11-8 and 11-5. At the No. 9 position
Rohan Valia who won in four sets over Alejandro Porras Diaz in a match that Valia dropped the first set but came back and won the next three sets, 7-11, 11-0, 11-6, and 11-4.

In a hard-fought match at the No. 1 position,
Harry Charlton battled in the first and third sets against Yash Fadte but fell in straight sets, 11-8,11-2, and 11-7.
Kunal Valia was in the No. 2 position but was unable to defeat Abdelrahman Lasheen as he lost a heartbreaking five set match in which Valia won the second and third sets and battled in the fourth and fifth sets before falling, 11-7, 4-11, 4-11, 11-8, and 11-8.
Kerwin Teh also fell in five sets at the No. 3 position against Luis Moncada as Teh won the first and fourth set but was unable to complete in the comeback in the fifth, 7-11, 11-3, 11-2, 7-11, and 11-9.

At the No. 4 position,
Youssef Ezzo was able to win the second set, but was unable to complete the comeback effort as he forced extra points against Omar Zakaria but was ultimately defeated 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, and 12-10. In the match between
Sanjeev Jeyabalan for Tufts and Jacob Koeppel for the University of Rochester at the No. 5 position, it was tightly contested throughout but Koeppel would prevail over Jeyabalan in five sets. Jeyabalan dropped the first set before responding and winning both the second and third set, but couldn't finish it off as it would finished 11-5, 8-11,7-11, 11-8, and 11-5.

Tufts finished the season with a record of 9-10. The Jumbos will have a member of the team, Sophomore
Kerwin Teh, competing in the 2023 College Squash Association National Collegiate Individual championships in Philadelphia at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center, next weekend March 3
rd through the 5
th.
