Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Weekend at BU Winter Open

BOSTON, MA (February 4, 2023) – The Jumbo men's swimming & diving team wrapped up its weekend of action at the BU Winter Open with two sessions on Saturday. The meet featured a mixture of Divisions I and III competition from around New England.

Tufts opened the afternoon session with the 100 butterfly, where Soeren Euvrard was fourth (50.11) and Jack Moore sixth (50.71). That was followed by Bora Calis' 4:07..27 swim in the 400 individual medley.

The Jumbos had three in the top eight for the 200 freestyle this afternoon. Kapil Shetty led at 1:44.56 for fifth, Michael Damelio was seventh in 1:45.81 and Sean Carr placed eighth at 1:46.03.

Julian Chun's day included a time of 57.44 seconds for eighth in the 100 breaststroke. Calis also competed here with a 57.94 mark for ninth.

The Jumbo divers took places fifth through eighth in the one-meter event, led by Ethan Cobos (2:58.10) and Kai Renshaw (257.95). Louie Demetriades was third in the 1,650 freestyle (16:08.17) to end the afternoon session.

Carr would add a sixth in the 200 backstroke (1:54.87) later on, while Chun too was sixth in the 200 breaststroke in the evening with a 2:05.90 finish. The Jumbo tandem of Alex Gu and Damelio in the 100 freestyle placed seventh and eighth in 46.70 and 47.71, respectively. The Jumbos also had the pair of Euvrard and Moore tie in the 200 butterfly with their 1:54.60 marks sharing fifth place.

The one Jumbo relay team that competed on Saturday was second in the 200 free relay (1:26.26). Gu, Damelio, Euvrard and Chun were the foursome.

In the time trials, a 2:03.20 finish in the 200 breaststroke by Calis was just off the 2:03.15 school record. A 49.27 from Euvrard in the 100 butterfly and the 54.32 by Luke Hruska for the 100 individual medley also stood out.

The Jumbos are now off until the 2023 NESCAC Championships hosted by Wesleyan University begin on February 16.
