CLAREMONT, CA (March 22, 2023) -- The No. 5 Tufts University men's tennis team was able to get out on the courts after having some issues with rain earlier in the day, topping NAIA foe Westcliff University 5-2 in play Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday's originally schedule match with Pomona-Pitzer will now be played Thursday in addition to Thursday's match with the University of Redlands.
As for Wednesday's match with Westcliff, Tufts was able to earn the doubles' point thanks to victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Jack Moldenhauer and
Alex Ganchev knocked off Emile Favre and Kai Vander Assen 6-2 while
Aarush Ganji and
Lachie Macintosh won at No. 3 doubles 6-2 over Domino Petrisio and Felik Veyhle.
In singles action,
Josh Belandres earned a hard-fought victory over Vander Assen 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) at No. 3 singles, and Ganji won in straight sets at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-0. Macintosh picked up a straight set victory at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1, and Moldenhauer was up 6-1, 1-0 in the second set before his opponent was forced to retire at No. 6.
Vuk Vaksanovic fell 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10) in a thriller at No. 2 singles to Favre, while
Rishabh Sharda was topped by Victor Chaix 6-3, 6-3 at the top position. The four wins at the bottom fo the lineup were more than enough to pick up the team victory, as Tufts moved to 5-0 on the spring season.
Tufts will take on No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Claremont, CA, while taking on No. 25 Redlands at 11 a.m. in Redlands, CA.
