Doty's Perfect Game Leads Softball To 1-0 Win at Babson

BABSON PARK, MA (April 19, 2023) - Tufts University Softball first-year Emilie Doty pitched the Jumbos' first seven-inning perfect game since 2014 in a 1-0 victory at Babson College this afternoon.

Doty retired all 21 Beaver batters she faced including seven by strikeout to improve to 8-1 on the season. Ninth-ranked Tufts moved to 27-2 overall with the single-game win at Babson's Alumni Field.

Tufts senior left fielder Kat Yuzefpolsky made a pair of outstanding catches to keep the perfect game alive. Her diving grab near the left-field line robbed Babson's Caroline Taylor for the second out in the sixth. Then in the seventh, she charged in and lunged forward to nab a ball by Sara Moore for the first out of the final frame.

The perfect game is the first at Tufts since Kristi Van Meter had a five-inning one against Bowdoin on April 6, 2019. Doty's seven perfect innings mark the first time a Jumbo hurler has done that since Hall of Famer Allyson Fournier versus Bridgewater State on April 17, 2014.

Senior Rachel Moore provided the offense for the Jumbos today with her fifth home run of the season to the opposite field in right to lead off the sixth. The Jumbos had stranded seven runners on base before Moore put them on the scoreboard.

Babson starter Moira O'Reilly also pitched well, giving up just Moore's homer and a single by Bela Jimenez that led off the game. O'Reilly did walk five and hit a batter while striking out six. Babson fell to 17-14 with the loss.

The Jumbos will return home for the first time in two weeks on Saturday for a NESCAC double-heder against Wesleyan University.
