Women's Tennis Drops Final Home Match To No. 5 Wesleyan, 8-1

MEDFORD, MA (April 22, 2023) -- The No. 10 Tufts University women's tennis team saw its five-match NESCAC win streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the Jumbos were topped by No. 5 Wesleyan University 8-1 in a NESCAC contest from South Courts. 

The Cardinals (14-1) were able to take a 3-0 lead after doubles, as Caitlyn Ferrante and Nika Vesely teamed up at No. 2 to knock off Sophie Wax and Zoe Kava 8-5 to put Wesleyan up 1-0. The visitors would add on to its advantage at No. 3 doubles, as Lucy Mitchell and Stephanie Woodbury were bested by Reena Mohsen-Breen and Sarah Youngberg 8-4. The final doubles match to finish up was at No. 1 doubles, as Kristina Yu and Sasha Gaeth won the tiebreaking set over Rachel Cranley and Madeline Suk, 8-7.

The Jumbos (8-8) got the first win in singles action, as Kava won her third match in a row with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Ferrante at No. 3 singles. Kava is now 4-1 at the No. 3 position in 2023 and is 9-0 in conference play. She is 9-1 in her last 10 singles matches and has an overall record of 15-2.
 
The Cardinals added another victory to lead 4-1 after Leila Epstein knocked off Wax 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot, and Serim Jin clinched the match at No. 6 for Wesleyan with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Casey Cummings.

The Jumbos have finished the regular season and now will now enter the postseason as they start the NESCAC Tournament on Friday, April 28th. The opponent and location are still to be determined.
