MEDFORD, MA (May 12, 2023) -- USA Lacrosse Magazine released its 2023 Division III All-American list on Thursday afternoon, and five Tufts University women's lacrosse standouts were honored for their play this season. Senior
Becca Gable was named as a Second Team All-American, while
Margie Carden earned Third Team and
Emma Joyce,
Madeline Delaney and
Kathryn Fernandopulle was selected to the Honorable Mention.
Gable comes into the NCAA Tournament with a team-leading 19 caused turnovers on the season, adding 17 ground balls and only one turnovers while starting all 18 games for the Jumbos. The senior has helped the Jumbos to 14 wins this season, including being part of a defense that has posted eight games of holding opposition to nine or fewer goals. Gable was a 2022 USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-American pick.
Carden has followed up her strong first-year campaign with an even better sophomore season, as she was recently selected to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) First Team on attack. Carden is third in the NESCAC in goals with 58 so far this season, while her 6.50 shots per game is also second in the NESCAC. Carden is second on the squad in assists with 12, adding 14 free-position goals on 29 attempts. She also has 13 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Joyce was selected as an Honorable Mention after picking up First Team All-NESCAC last week, tallying 46 goals to go with 16 assists. Joyce broke the school record for draw controls in a season with 102, while also leading the squad in ground balls with 26. Joyce was second on the squad with 15 caused turnovers, and tallied a team-leading four game-winning goals.
Delaney finished third on the team in points with 35 while tallying 23 goals. Delaney was second on the team in draw controls with 61, totaling 22 ground balls and three game-winning goals on the season. Fernandopulle was second on the squad with 18 caused turnovers, adding 27 ground balls and five draw controls. She stepped into the starting lineup later in the season, and has posted three or more caused turnovers in four of the last five games.
Tufts will battle No. 22 Cortland on Bello Field at noon Sunday in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
