BRUNSWICK, ME (January 10, 2024) -- Sophomore
Jared Chin won his team-high sixth match of the season Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 12 Tufts University men's squash team won its fourth straight outing with an 8-1 win over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Bowdoin College in action from Lubin Family Squash Center in Maine.
The Jumbos moved to 6-2 overall on the campaign, winning all but one match while sweeping the bottom eight flights in the lineup. Tufts' win wasn't easy though, as six of the eight wins for Tufts went more than three games. At No. 2, senior
Harry Charlton evened his mark on the season at 4-4 with an exciting four-game victory over Nick Wilkinson with scores of 11-5, 7-11, 11-3 and 11-9. It was Charlton's first win at the No. 2 position for Tufts after playing at the top spot most of the year.
Graduate student
Sanjeev Jeyabalan also needed four games to pick up his second victory of the year with a 13-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-9 victory, while
Youssef Ezzo won his third straight match to move to 5-1 on the year with a thrilling hour-long win over Abriroop Reddy in five games (11-5, 17-19, 11-5, 8-11, 11-2).
First-year
Nachiket Desai pulled away from a 1-1 tie at No. 5 to earn a four-game win over Jackson Rho. Desai is now 5-2 on the campaign. Chin was too strong at No. 6, knocking off Bowdoin's Aryan Singh 11-7, 6-11, 11-7 and 11-5, his fourth straight win which leads the team.
Newcomer
Rutva Samant won his third straight match Wednesday with a three-game victory over Neil Bam, earning a triumph with a score of 11-7, 11-5 and 11-5. Samant has now not lost a game in any if his five match wins this season. Fellow first-year
Aarav Gill drew into the lineup this afternoon and was also a straight game winner, as he moved to 2-0 on the season with a 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 win for the Jumbos.
The final win for Tufts came at No. 9, as
Shivin Kumar dropped the third game but rebounded to win in four games with a score of 11-4, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8 to improve to 4-1 on the season. First-year
Rohan Bhatia also won with an exhibition victory over Luciano Agudelo 11-5,11-9 and 11-5.
The lone Polar Bear (2-2) win of the day came at the top position, as Jack Winston outlasted
Kerwin Teh 11-5, 11-7, 10-12, 11-2.
Tufts will look to extend its winning streak on Saturday, January 13 at noon, battling No. 19 Franklin & Marshall College at home in the first of two matches in the Tufts Squash Center this upcoming weekend.
