WATERVILLE, ME (January 9, 2024) -- In a big match between two highly ranked New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), the No. 12 Tufts University men's squash team won the bottom six flights to knock off No. 13 Colby College 6-3 in play from the Colby Squash Center.
The Jumbos (5-2) got crucial wins at the bottom of the ladder, as Tufts dropped just three games in the bottom six flights to secure the victory. At No. 4,
Youssef Ezzo was a winner over Youssif Mostafa with scores of 13-11, 11-4 and 11-7, while
Nachiket Desai outlasted Sen Subramaniam in straight sets 11-8, 11-8 and 11-7 at No. 5.
The wins continued at No. 6, as
Jared Chin played the longest match of the day pulling past Carlos Zendejas in four games, rallying for a 7-11, 11-7, 15-13, 13-11 win. It was Chin's fifth victory of the season, which leads the squad.
At No. 7,
Rohan Valia upped his record to 3-2 on the campaign with a four-game victory over Sebastian Campos, pulling away in the third game for a 11-4, 8-11, 11-5 and 11-8. First-year
Rutva Samant has the most emphatic victory of the day at No. 8, surrendering just 10 points in an 11-3, 11-4 and 11-3 win over Avery Rosenberg.
Tufts got its final victory at No. 9, with
Emerson Wang picking up his fourth win of the campaign with a 11-5, 8-11, 11-9 and 11-4 win.
Kerwin Teh was topped at the No. 1 spot 11-3, 11-6 and 11-3, while
Harry Charlton fell to Seif Ashraf 12-10, 11-1 and 11-5 at the second position. The final result came at No. 3, as
Sanjeev Jeyabalan was bested by Colby's Jonathan Sosa 11-7, 3-11, 11-7 and 11-5.
The Jumbos will be back in action Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., taking on Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
