MEDFORD, MA (November 15, 2024) -- The Tufts University men's squash squad showed its depth all the way through the lineup on Friday afternoon in its 2024-25 season opener against No. 14 Western Ontario, winning all but one of the matches at No. 3 down to earn a 6-3 victory inside Tufts Squash Center.
The Jumbos (1-0) fell at No. 1 and No. 2 in highly competitive matches, but first-year
Santiago Medina Carrillo rolled in his first match at Tufts with an 11-5, 11-9 and 11-9 victory at No. 3.
Senior
Kerwin Teh also was a straight-game winner Friday, rolling at No. 4 11-7, 11-7 and 11-7 over Amin Kham.
Jared Chin posted an 11-7, 11-8 and 11-8 win at No. 6 singles over William Znidarec, while sophomore
Rutva Samant alos earned a 3-0 win after chalking up scores of 11-9, 11-9 and 11-6.
At No. 8,
Shivin Kumar shook off a third game loss to post a strong 11-8, 11-3, 11-13 and 11-9 win over Ben Boulanger. First-year
Ali Tarek also picked up his first career win for the Jumbos, tallying scores of 11-9, 10-12, 11-1 and 11-7 at No. 9.
At No. 1,
Aarav Gill fell to Dylan Deverill 11-7, 3-11, 6-11, 5-11 while
Nachiket Desai dropped a five-game thriller to Daniel Deverill 9-11, 11-6, 11-13, 11-6, 8-11.
Rohan Valia was also edged in No. 5 singles in five games 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-2 and 7-11.
The Jumbos will take on No. 4 Trinity College Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. inside Tufts Squash Center.
