MEDFORD, MA (November 17, 2024) -- The No. 10 Tufts University men's squash team finished a long and challenging first weekend of action on Sunday, battling hard with No. 5 Harvard University before falling to the Crimson 7-2 in play from the Murr Center.
Despite the team loss for the Jumbos (1-2), Tufts played well throughout the lineup including at No. 8 and No. 9 where it picked up three-game victories. Junior
Shivin Kumar was a 3-0 winner at No. 8 for the Jumbos, as he posted a 11-7, 11-7 and 11-6 win over Marcus Lee. First-year
Ali Tarek has had a strong start to his career, as he picked up an 11-7, 11-5, 11-7 win over Erik Wang at No. 9.
At No. 3, first-year
Santiago Medina Carrillo put it all out there against Neel Joshi before falling in a five-game thriller with scores of 11-6, 12-10, 12-14, 8-11, 11-5.
Sophomore
Aarav Gill pushed David Costales at No. 1 before falling 11-4, 11-5 and 11-9, and
Nachiket Desai was topped by Denis Gilevskiy at the No. 2 spot 11-5, 11-4 and 11-6. Senior
Kerwin Teh was bested by Jacob Lin 11-5, 11-4 and 11-4, and
Rohan Valia was defeated by Segev Rome 11-7, 11-2 and 11-5.
At No. 6, Harvard's Conner Stoltz defeated
Jared Chin 11-5, 11-6 and 11-2, while sophomore
Rutva Samant played very well in the opening two sets before being topped by Louis Murray 11-7, 12-10 and 11-2.
Despite the loss, the two match wins for the Jumbos were the most ever for a Tufts squad against one of the best squash programs in the nation perennially.
Tufts be back on the road next Friday evening in New York City to take on another Ivy League opponent, battling No. 8 Columbia University at 5 p.m.
