MEDFORD, MA (November 22, 2024) – The Tufts University women's basketball team won its third straight game to start the season with a 61-50 victory over Babson College on Friday night at Cousens Gym.
The Jumbos (3-0) trailed 24-23 at the half, but outscored the Beavers 23-14 in the third quarter to take a 46-38 lead.
Sarah Crossett scored eight of her 12 points in the third quarter to lead the Jumbos. A free throw by
Caitlyn O'Boyle with 4:55 to go in the quarter gave Tufts a lead (31-30) they would not relinquish.
The Beavers (2-3) closed to within 48-46 in the fourth quarter after a three by Katelyn Mollica. However, Tufts' Sophia Gonzalez responded with a three to start an 11-0 run that put Tufts in charge up 13 (59-46). O'Boyle had four points for the Jumbos during the stretch.
Tufts had started strong by building a 14-8 lead after 10 minutes. Six different players scored for the Jumbos during the first quarter.
However, Babson answered with a 16-9 second quarter to take the one-point halftime lead. Mollica sank two three-pointers to lead the way.
Gonzalez led the Jumbos with 15 points and added nine rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes. O'Doyle double-doubled with 10 points including six at the line and 10 rebounds.
Sophia Davis chipped in six points and five boards. The Jumbos were 18 for 21 from the line overall (85.7 percent), and they outscored Babson 17-5 off the bench led by O'Boyle.
Mollica led all scorers with 16 points, making four three-pointers. Samantha Reale added 13 points, three steals and three blocks for the Beavers. Emily Flynn grabbed nine boards while scoring six points.
The Jumbos are right back at it tomorrow afternoon when they host Roger Williams University at 1 PM.
