MEDFORD, MA (September 8, 2024) -- The No .1 New York University women's basketball team extended its NCAA Division III winning streak to 38 games on Sunday, as the Violets topped the Jumbos 97-50 in play from Cousens Gymnasium.
The Violets took control in the first quarter, using an early 12-0 run to establish a double-digit lead they never relinquished.
NYU went on to lead 31-13 after the first quarter and 51-28 at halftime.
The Violets' defense continued to stifle in the third quarter, holding the Jumbos (6-3) to just five points, pulling away for the victory.
Junior
Sarah Crossett had nine points and five rebounds to pace the Jumbos, while
Hannah Kelly added eight points in her first start of the campaign.
Annie Ryan tallied six points as well, and
Sofia Gonzalez finished with five points, six rebounds and two steals.
Senior
Annika Decker finished with five points, four assists and four rebounds, and junior
Annie Aspesi contributed five points as well.
Caitlyn O'Boyle recorded five boards as well of the bench.
Tufts shot 26.2 percent (17-65) from the floor for the game.
Natalie Bruns led NYU with 23 points, adding six rebounds and three assists. Belle Pellechia added 21 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals, Brooke Batchelor was a rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
NYU held a 29-4 edge in points off turnovers for the game, while adding a 29-1 edge in fast break points.
Tufts is off until December 31, traveling to Springfield College for the Hampton Inn West Springfiedl/Naismith Classic, taking on Ithaca College at 3 p.m. in the first day of play.
