AMHERST, MA (February 10, 2024) - The Tufts University men's squash team got started with the NESCAC tournament Saturday afternoon in Amherst MA. The Jumbos squared off against Middlebury College. The Jumbos were able to outlast the Panthers in a very close 5-4 squash match.
The Jumbos (11-5) came into the tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Jumbos got things started with senior
Harry Charlton slated into the No. 2 spot facing Nathan Feinstein. Charlton was able to win in straight sets to put the Jumbos up early 11-7, 11-3, 12-10. At the No. 7 spot, sophomore
Rohan Valia took on Middlebury's Gabe Thin. Valia was able to take the edge in four sets 11-5, 11-2, 6-11, 12-10, to extend the Jumbos lead. At the No. 3 spot, grad student
Sanjeev Jeyabalan fell to Caleb Boateng four sets 11-2, 11-8, 9-11, 11-5.
Going into the middle of the ladder the Jumbos had a 2-1 lead over the Panthers. At the No. 1 spot, junior
Kerwin Teh was the only Jumbo in the middle of the ladder to earn a win. Teh squared off against Nathan Feinstein, Teh was able to earn the victory in straight sets 11-7, 11-3, 12-10. At the No. 5 spot, freshman
Nachiket Desai took the first and third sets in a hard-fought five-set match against Kian Kardestuncer. Desai came up short dropping the fifth set 6-11, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8. At the No. 9 spot, freshman
Emerson Wang was defeated by Charlie Clifford in straight sets.
Going into the final three matches of the day the score was all tied up, the first match was at the No. 8 spot, where freshman
Aarav Gill took on David Zhao. Gill bested Zhao in straight sets 11-9, 11-9, 11-5 to put the Jumbos back in the lead. At the No. 4 spot, junior
Youssef Ezzo went back and forth with Theo Kogan. The match ended up needing five sets Ezzo came up short losing the fifth set 3-11, 13-11, 4-11, 12-10, 11-7. In the last match-up of the day with the score all tied up sophomore
Jared Chin who has been stellar for the Jumbos all season long faced off against PK Keller at the No. 6 spot. Chin was able to defeat Keller in five sets 11-4, 7-11, 13-11, 5-11, 11-6, to give the Jumbos the victory.
The Jumbos will take on No. 2 seed Williams College in the NESCAC semi-finals Sunday, February 11, at 9 am at Amherst College.
