AMHERST, MA (February 11, 2024) - The Tufts University men's Jumbos squash team will advance to the NESCAC Tournament Finals after defeating Williams College for the first time in 14 years. The match took place at the Davenport Squash Courts on the campus of Amherst College.
The Jumbos (12-5) showed great resilience throughout the whole match. At the No.1 spot, junior
Kerwin Teh defeated William Evans in a hard-fought five-set match 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 4-11, 5-11. At the No. 3 Spot, grad studentÂ
Sanjeev Jeyabalan was defeated by Andrew Minnis in four games 9-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-2. At the No. 4 spot, junior
Youssef Ezzo took the second and third sets but it wouldn't be enough as Ezzo was defeated in the fifth and final set.
At the No. 5 spot, freshmanÂ
Nachiket Desai was bested in three sets by Asher Leavy 11-6, 11-9, 11-6. At the No. 6, 7, and 8 spots, the Jumbos got big wins by sophomore
Jared Chin who defeated Alex Akbari in four sets. Freshman Rutva Samat defeated Pierce Henderson in four sets 7-11, 11-3, 7-11, 5-11. Sophomore
Rohan Valia defeated John Nicholson in four sets as well 12-14, 11-5, 4-11, 6-11. At the No. 9 spot, freshman
Aarav Gill was defeated by Charles Merrill in four sets 11-9, 11-7, 2-11, 11-8.
With the match all tied up at four a-piece senior Harry Charleton took on Nick Agger at the No. 2 spot. Charlton dropped the first set, but answered back with three straight-set victories to give the Jumbos the win and send them to the finals.
The Jumbos Men's squash team will now compete in the NESCAC finals against No. 1 seed Trinity College at 4 pm today.
