PHILADELPHIA, PA (February 29, 2024) - The No. 12 ranked Tufts University men's squash team competed in the first round of 16 in the CSA National Collegiate Team Championships against No. 5 ranked Yale University Thursday morning in Philadelphia at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center.
The Jumbos (12-7) battled hard, but Yale was too much and was able to take all nine matches. The Bulldogs won the 7-9 matches in straight-set wins. Junior
Kerwin Teh took the second set against Yale's Siow Yee Xian, but it wouldn't be enough as he lost the last two sets 11-4, 7-11, 11-6, 11-5. Freshman
Aarav Gill took the first set against Merritt Wurts, though he ended up dropping the last three sets and lost in four 8-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-6.
The Jumbos got to this point of the season through some outstanding play by everyone on the roster. They were able to defeat Williams College in the NESCAC semi-finals to make it to the program's first-ever NESCAC final. They also beat eight teams inside the CSA Top 20 and maintained a top 20 ranking all season long.
The Jumbos will now go on to play in the CSA consolation bracket, where they will take on No. 9 ranked Dartmouth tomorrow at 11 a.m. The Jumbos saw Dartmouth earlier this season as the Big Green defeated the Jumbos 6-3 back on January 14. The Bulldogs will face-off against No. 4 ranked Harvard University in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
