Men's Tennis Starts Spring Break With 7-2 Win Over Pomona-Pitzer Tuesday

CLAREMONT, CA (March 19, 2024) -- In a showdown at the Pauley Tennis Complex, No. 5 Tufts University's men's tennis team demonstrated their prowess against No. 26 Pomona-Pitzer, securing a convincing 7-2 victory in non-conference play Tuesday evening.

In the doubles competition, Pomona-Pitzer's duo of Eshaan Lumba and Matthew Feng put up a valiant effort, narrowly edging out Alex Ganchev and Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts in a thrilling match that ended 8-7 in a tiebreak. However, Tufts quickly responded as Derin Acaroglu and Lachie Macintosh secured a decisive victory over Sam English and Owen Kelley with a score of 8-2. The Tufts team continued their dominance in doubles as Sacha Maes and Corey Marley sealed the victory for their team with an 8-4 triumph over John Wehrle and Neil Chulani.

The singles competition kicked off with Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts displaying formidable skill, defeating Eshaan Lumba of Pomona-Pitzer with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. Following suit, Javier Gonzalez of Tufts continued the momentum, overcoming Matthew Feng in a closely contested match, ultimately prevailing with a score of 6-2, 7-5.

Lachie Macintosh of Tufts engaged in a tight battle against Sam English but emerged victorious after a fierce tiebreaker in the first set, ultimately clinching the win with a score of 7-6, 6-1. Derin Acaroglu of Tufts continued Tufts' dominance in singles, securing a commanding victory over Owen Kelley with a score of 6-1, 6-3.

Pomona-Pitzer's Rohun Krishnan showcased his skill by claiming victory over Alex Ganchev of Tufts with a score of 6-3, 6-3. However, Garv Bahl of Tufts closed out the singles competition with a strong performance, defeating John Wehrle with identical sets of 6-3, 6-3.

Tufts (3-2) will have a busy Wednesday, taking on NAIA's No. 14 ranked squad Westcliff University at 10:30 AM before battling No. 7 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 6:00 PM, both times Pacific.
