Men's Tennis Drops Match to No. 7 Williams College 5-4

BENNINGTON, VT (March 9, 2024) - The No.3 ranked Tufts University men's tennis team played NESCAC foe No. 7 ranked Williams College today. The match was played indoors Bennington Vt, at the Bennington Tennis Center. The match was very close as the Jumbos saw themselves down 4-2 at one point. The rally for the Jumbos wouldn't be enough as the Ephs pulled through winning 5-4

The Jumbos (2-1) went into singles play down 2-1 after doubles play was completed. Sophomore's Alex Ganchev and Sacha Maes got the only wins of the day at the No. 2 doubles for the Jumbos, they defeated Shawn Berdia and Leon Liu 8-5. Junior's Vuk Vuksanovic and Derin Acaroglu dropped their match to Nicholas Chen and Matt Kandel 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles. At the No. 3 doubles sophomore Javier Gonzalez and senior Mauricio Gutierrez were bested by Winner Kush Anand and Simon Volkema 8-5. 

In singles play Vuksanovic was bested by Matt Kandel 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles match. Down 3-1 in the match with Vuksanovic's loss, first-year Garv Bahl got a needed win against Leon Liu at the No. 6 singles match, Bahl won his match 7-5, 6-3. Gonzalez was defeated in his match by Shawn Berdia 7-6, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles match. With another Ephs win they were up 4-2 against the Jumbos with three more singles matches to play.

Derin won his singles match against Anand 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles match. Junior Lachie Macintosh won his singles match at No. 3 against Chen 7-6, 6-7 1-0. Lachie's win wouldn't be enough though as Ganchev lost a very hard-fought match against Volkema at the No. 4 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 5-7 to give the Ephs the final victory of 5-4.

Next up for the Jumbos, they will take on another NESCAC foe as they travel to Middlebury VT, to take on the No. 2 ranked Middlebury College Sunday Afternoon. The match will be played at 2 p.m.
