WORCESTER, MA (April 21, 2024) - The Tufts University women's rowing team won its second straight Bernie Brown Cup over WPI in convincing fashion Sunday morning on Lake Quinsigamond. Ranked #1 in the nation this week, Tufts' flexed its skill and depth in three races overall.
The Jumbos' first varsity built nearly a full-length lead through the first 500 meters and were ahead by open water into the second 500. The gap continued to grow and Tufts would win in a 6:54.41 mark to 7:07.87 for WPI for a 13-second margin of victory over the sixth-ranked Engineers. The Tufts 1V8 was coxswain

The second varsity race would finish in favor of Tufts even more significantly. The Jumbos already had a slight open-water advantage at 500 meters when they made a move to open up a lead of two full lengths by the halfway point. They walked away to the finish with a 7:00.8 time to 7:24.62 for WPI. Racing for Tufts was coxswain

The best race of the day, men's or women's, was the third varsity women's contest. Tufts had its third, fourth and fifth varsities up against WPI's 3V8. The Jumbo third and fourth boats would wage an outstanding race that went to the wire, with the third varsity holding off a strong finish by the fourth. The winning time was 7:10.1 to 7:11.36. Tufts' fifth varsity was also over a length in front of WPI, with a Jumbo time of 7:32.59 taking third to 7:39.63 by the Engineers.
