Colello Tabbed As Associate Head Coach For Track and Field/Cross Country

MEDFORD, MA (August 23, 2024) - Tufts University Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Jamie Norton announced Friday the appointment of Ben Colello as the Associate Head Coach of Tufts University Track & Field/Cross Country. In his role, Colello will assist in leading the six men's and women's cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field across the three seasons.

"We are super excited to welcome Ben to the staff," said Norton. "He brings high level experience as an athlete to the table, and has proven at Regis that he has the coaching ability to develop athletes and build a winning program. He is a strong relational coach who I know will build strong connections with our student-athletes and give them the tools they need to thrive on and off the track/field."

Colello comes to Tufts after serving as the head men's and women's track & field and cross country coach at Regis College since 2021. In that time, Colello exceeded institutional recruitment goals, doubling the roster from 32 to 65 athletes. He also coached the women's track & field team to an indoor championship in 2023, and an outdoor championship in 2024. He coached the men to indoor and outdoor runners-up in 2023 and 2024.

Before serving as head coach, Colello was a graduate assistant coach at Regis. From 2019 until June of 2020, he oversaw the management of all sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers as well as assisted in coaching the cross country team.

Prior to his time at Regis, Colello was a volunteer assistant coach for Harvard University Track & Field. During his one season with the Crimson, he coached multis for men's and women's throws and jumps.

As a student athlete, Colello was team captain of the Dartmouth College Track & Field team. With the Big Green, Colello competed in seven Division I Ivy League Championships, earned three All-Ivy second team selections, and competed in a NCAA Regional Qualifier. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies, Colello is top 10 all time in the Big Green record books in the decathlon, heptathlon, javelin, 60m hurdles and 110m hurdles. One of his best finishes with Dartmouth was a second place spot in the decathlon at the 2018 Ivy League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Other accolades as a student athlete include three Bugbee awards for team spirit, a Lovejoy Track Prize for sportsmanship and a Herb Chase award, given to the most improved athlete.

"I would like to thank Coach Norton and Coach Kristen Morwick for this amazing opportunity, I could not be more excited to join the Jumbo staff!" said Colello. "Coaching at Tufts has been a dream of mine for many years, and I am so proud to join a program with such a rich history of excellence and a commitment to both academic and athletic achievement."

Colello has also helped the Complete Track and Field Clinic in Cambridge, MA as a coach. He assisted Harvard coach Marc Mangiacotti with the hurdles group, as well as coached high school athletes as they prepared for the leap to college sports.

"The Tufts Track and Field program has been a powerhouse in the NESCAC and New England for decades, and I am eager to contribute to its continued success and help our athletes reach new heights," said Colello.
