MIDDLETOWN, CT (September 21, 2024) - The Tufts University women's cross country team returned to action with a third-place finish out of 10 teams at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday.
The Jumbos finished with a team score of 69, just one behind runner-up team Vassar College. Tufts was ahead of fourth-place and host Wesleyan University (77), while Amherst College won the event with a 46 score.
Leading the Jumbos today was junior
Elizabeth Donahue who was eighth individually out of 128 runners with time of 22:02.05 over six kilometers. It was her collegiate-best for the distance. The Jumbos also had first-year
Zoe Margolies in 10th place in her first 6k at a 22:07.76 mark.
Junior
Jaclyn Turner posted a 22:21.40 time that was 14th overall and third for the Jumbos. Sophomore
Sophia Carpenter was close behind with a 22:23.79 finish for 16th overall and fourth for Tufts. Completing the five-best scoring for the Jumbos was junior
Lexi Dean with a 22:27.52 finish for 21st place. All three ran collegiate bests.
Among today's Jumbo top seven as well were sophomore
Katya Henisz in 34th overall (a 22:56.47 PR) and senior
Carly Rinko in 46th (23:18.27).
Tufts also had among its top 14 today first-year
Eleanor Whitehouse in 51st (23:28.27), junior
Eliana Montgomery in 53rd (23:29.49 PR), junior
Vivian Lau in 54th (23:33.38 PR), first-year
Grace Doyle in 68th (23:59.24), junior
Gwenyth Stach in 73rd (24:11.65), first-year
Nina Corso in 76th (24:16.96) and first-year
Samara McVey in 78th (24:21.25).
Stephanie Ager from host Wesleyan won the race by a healthy margin of more than seven seconds with her 21:12.55 time.
Tufts will be idle next week before returning to action on October 5 with at both the Paul Short Run in Pennsylvania and the Keene State Invitational -in New Hampshire.
