CAMBRIDGE, MA (January 22, 2025) -- The No. 11 Tufts University men's squash team won its second straight match Wednesday night on the road, knocking off No. 19 MIT 8-1 in action from the MIT Squash Courts.
The Jumbos (5-5) moved to .500 on the season thanks to a dominating performance, as
Nachiket Desai picked up a strong three-game win over Mero Elmarassy 11-9, 11-5 and 13-11. The win was the fourth of the year for Desai, while moving to 3-2 at the top spot for the Jumbos.
Sophomore
Aarav Gill played the most exciting match of the day at No. 2, as he rallied from down two games to post a five-game victory over Hyun Su Price with scores of 9-11, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10 and 11-4. Gill is now 3-2 at the No. 2 spot this year, winning his second straight match. Senior
Kerwin Teh would roll at No. 3, chalking up an 11-6, 11-9 and 12-10 win over John Gunton. Teh moved to 5-4 on the season.
Rohan Valia had no trouble at No. 4 Wednesday, cruising to an 11-6, 11-7 and 11-7 win over Bobby Alabani, while
Jared Chin won his team-leading sixth match of the campaign with a three-game win over Sean-Winston Luo at 11-7, 11-6 and 11-8.
Sophomore
Rutva Samant moved to 4-4 on the season with a 11-4, 11-8 and 11-6 win over Mitav Nayak at No. 6, and
Shivin Kumar fought off a rally from Zachary Starr to post an 11-7, 115, 8-11, 9-11, 11-2 win at the seventh spot. Kumar is now 4-3 this season after Wednesday's win.
First-year
Ali Tarek upped his mark to 4-2 on the season after a five-game marathon win over Eddie Xue, winning 11-4, 7-11, 11-7, 5-11, 15-13 at No. 8. The lone win for MIT came at No. 9, as
Milo Friedman was topped in five games, 12-10, 13-11, 7-11, 4-11, 11-9 by Lars Barkman.
In exhibition action,
Rohan Bhatia knocked off Stephen Shin 11-3, 11-3 and 11-5.
Tufts will hit the road for a busy weekend Saturday and Sunday, starting action January 25 at 1 p.m. against Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT.
