MEDFORD, MA (October 25, 2025) -- The No. 1 Tufts University men's soccer squad exploded for five second-half goals Saturday against Emerson College, celebrating Senior Day with a 6-0 home win in the non-conference finale on Bello Field.
The Jumbos (11-1-2) controlled action the entire game, outshooting the Lions 27-2 on the day including a 15-0 edge in shots on goal. The win was Tufts' sixth straight while also moving to 7-1-1 at home on Bello Field.
The opening goal came in the 24th minute on a beautiful passage of play, as
Henry Perkins made a nifty pass on the sidelines to put
Xavier Canfin in a great position. He would slip the ball to senior Mateo Bargnagna, who ripped a shot from 25 yards out over the diving Emerson keeper for the game's lid-lifter.
That's how the game would stand until halftime, but the Jumbos needed just 1:27 into the second half to double their lead thanks to an unassisted goal from
Henry Brown. 15 minutes later, senior
Mason Shultz got his first of the day as he took a loose ball from
Xavier Canfin and ripped a right curling shot into the right corner for a 3-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, Shultz found the back of the net again off of a rebound of a
Henry Perkins shot, making it 4-0 Tufts at the 69:33 mark of the contest.
The goals continued to come for Tufts in the 79th minute, as first-year
Davis Novak tapped in a beautiful pass across the goal mouth from Perkins for his first career goal as a Jumbo.
The final tally for the Jumbos came at the 86:49 mark of the contest, as sophomore
Ryan Rizvi headed in a free kick cross from
Thomas Yanez into the right side netting for the sixth of the game for Tufts. It was the first goal involvement for both Rizvi and Yanez of their careers.
That was plenty of offense for the Jumbos, who posted their fourth straight shutout and fifth in six games. Tufts has also now allowed a home goal since September 27 against Wesleyan University.
Tufts earned all eight of the game's corner kicks Saturday, while seniors
Nikola Antic and
Sammy Kao combined for the shutout. Canfin had a team-high five shots, while Perkins finished with three assists on the game. The three helpers were the most for a single player in a game for Tufts since at least 2010.
Asa Roberts made nine stops between the sticks for Emerson (5-5-5).
Tufts finishes its regular season on Tuesday in Brunswick, Maine, taking on Bowdoin College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play at 6 p.m.
