Hockey Hands 11th-Ranked Babson Its First Loss, 5-1

BABSON PARK, MA (November 25, 2025) – Visiting Tufts University gave 11th-ranked Babson College its first loss of the season in a 5-1 non-league men's hockey final Tuesday night at Babson Skating Center.

Trace Norwell scored twice for the Jumbos (3-2), while Max Resnick added a goal and two assists, Ethan Ullrick finished with a goal and assist and Brendan Fennell handed out three assists. Gus Bylin stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced in net.

Ullrick scored the first Jumbo goal eight minutes into the first period. Tufts' top line dumped the puck in and Fennell picked the puck off when Babson goalie Mason Rosado went behind the net to clear it. Fennell shot quickly, but Rosado dove back into position to make a save. Resnick retrieved the puck behind the net and poked it over to Fennell on the right side and he found Ullrick in the slot for a 1-0 Tufts lead.

The Jumbos struck on the power play early in the second period to go up 2-0. Resnick at the right point sent the puck down to Fennell at the right of the net. His pass in front deflected off a Babson player and Norwell was there to poke it in just 1:19 into the period.

With just under seven minutes to go in the middle stanza, the Jumbos had sustained pressure in the Babson end, resulting in Resnick's goal. Fennell took the rebound of his own shot from the right side and sent it across to a wide-open Resnick on the low edge of the left circle and his goal gave Tufts a 3-0 advantage.

The Jumbos would make a three-goal in the second with Norwell's second of the game at 18:25. An errant Babson pass was intercepted in the Jumbo end by Jonathan Horn. He broke out on a three-on-two, cutting to the right side as he entered the Babson zone. Norwell was trailing and controlled Horn's pass which ticked off a Babson stick and he scored from the slot to make it 4-0.

Tufts' lead ballooned to 5-0 in the middle of the third period. A Babson pass did not connect in the Jumbo zone and linemates Marcus Sang and John Mulvihill worked the puck up the right boards to Dobek. He charged into the Babson end on the right side and cut sharply around a defender deep in the zone to score his first collegiate goal.

The Jumbos lost the shutout with just under nine minutes remaining in the third. Babson's Will Holland sent a shot through traffic from the right point that Bylin saved, but Brendan Kennedy was right on the doorstep to score on the rebound.

Bylin stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced in another solid effort. The Beavers outshot the Jumbos 31-27, with Rosado making 22 saves for the hosts.

Babson falls to 6-1-1. The victory is Tufts' first in regulation against the Beavers since 2010.

After the holiday, Tufts will play in Skidmore College's Thanksgiving Tournament this weekend. They face #5 University of New England in the opening round on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
