A Look At The Championships
The Jumbos enter the weekend as the No. 3 seed, starting action Saturday at noon against No. 6 seed Amherst College at Trinity College. Tufts rolled past Amherst back on January 17 with an 8-1 victory, and has won six of its last seven matches with the lone blemish a 5-4 loss at Williams College on January 25.
Tufts, which has won nearly 60 percent of its individual matches this season, will look to its strong depth as it looks for its first NESCAC title in program history. Senior
Kerwin Teh leads the team with nine victories while going 7-3 at the No. 3 position this campaign. Junior
Jared Chin also has gone 9-6 this year, while senior
Youssef Ezzo has tallied wins in his last six to finish the regular season with a sparkling 7-2 record including a perfect 7-0 mark at No. 5 and No. 6.
Sophomore
Aarav Gill started as the No. 1 player for Tufts but has since been scorching hot at the No. 2 spot, as he has won seven straight while going 8-2 at No. 2 this season for an 8-7 mark. Classmate
Nachiket Desai has posted a 5-5 record at the No. 1 position, and
Shivin Kumar is playing well as he has chalked up four straight wins to get to 7-3 this campaign. Sophomore
Rutva Samant has been up and down, but finished the season with back-to-back wins against Bowdoin College and Colby College.
First-year
Ali Tarek has taken over at No. 9 of late, winning six straight matches to end the year to bring an 8-2 mark into the NESCAC Championships.
Emerson Wang has won all eight of his matches this season, and
Rohan Valia is also on a winning stretch as he has played well at No. 4 this season.
In 2024, Tufts made its first NESCAC title match against Trinity College, the 17-time reigning champions of the event. Trinity has only lost eight total matches in the 17-year history of the NESCAC title match.
The Bantams, ranked No. 4 in the CSA rankings, are the top seed again this season and will take on No. 8 Bates College in the quarterfinals. No. 5 Colby College will battle fourth-seed Middlebury College at 10 a.m. Saturday to start the weekend, while No. 7 seed Bowdoin College and No. 2 Williams College will play at 2 p.m. Saturday in the final quarterfinal.
Semifinal action will be Sunday morning at 9 a.m., with the remaining two teams playing the title match at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
