HARTFORD, CT (February 8, 2025) -- The No. 12 Tufts University men's squash team, seeded as the No. 3 squad in the 2025 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament, started their run through the NESCAC Tournament with a 9-0 win over No. 6 seed Amherst College in action from the George Kellner Squash Courts on the campus of Trinity College.
Action was quick to start for the Jumbos (10-6), as they quickly built a 4-0 lead.
Nachiket Desai was a three-game winner with an 11-8, 11-7 and 11-4 win over Abhimanyu Gupta at the No.1 spot, while sophomore
Aarav Gill also needed only three games to knock off Zi Tao Yu 11-9, 11-6 and 11-6 at the No. 2 spot. The win for Gill was his eighth straight.
Senior
Kerwin Teh won his fourth straight match to move into a tie for the team lead in victories with 10 this season after knocking off Joseph Toth 11-9, 11-5 and 11-7. The clinching win on Saturday came at No. 4, as
Jared Chin also won his 10th match of the season with an 11-7, 11-5 and 11-3 win.
Rohan Valia was a three-game winner with a 13-11, 11-5 and 11-5 victory over Fares Khairy at the fifth spot, his third win in a row. Senior
Youssef Ezzo continued his hot play at No. 6 with a five-set thrilling win over Matthew Granovsky 4-11, 11-3, 11-1, 8-11 and 11-4. Ezzo is now 8-2 this season as a senior, winning his seventh straight.
Sophomore
Rutva Samant won in four games over Graeme Herbert 9-11, 14-12, 11-8 and 11-7 at No. 7, and
Shivin Kumar needed just three games to pick up a 13-11, 11-3 and 11-1 win to move to 8-3 this season.
First-year
Ali Tarek was also a winner at No. 9, as he rolled to his seventh straight victory and ninth overall this season with an 11-9, 11-1 and 11-5 victory over Walter Huffman.
The Jumbos wil now move into the NESCAC semifinals to take on No. 2 seed and No. 10 Williams College Sunday morning at 9 a.m. in play from the Kellner Squash Courts at Trinity College.
