BABSON PARK, MA (March 2, 2025) -- The No. 3 Tufts University men's tennis got the spring segment of the 2024-25 season underway on Sunday evening, traveling to No. 25 Babson College and handing the host Beavers a 7-0 defeat in action from Longfellow Tennis Club.
The Jumbos (1-0) got things going quickly in doubles with a 24-minute victory at the No. 2 spot, as
Vuk Vuksanovic and
Javier Gonzalez defeated Sebastian Mendoza and Brady Anderson 6-2.
Minutes later, Tufts clinched the doubles' point at No. 1 as
Sacha Maes and
Alex Ganchev continued their success from the fall with a 6-4 win over Ole Lepsoe and Alex Merson. In the match, Tufts had to battle back from a pair of deficits including 3-2 to win four of the final five games.
At No. 3, seniors
Lachie Macintosh and
Derin Acaroglu fell behind 5-1 but roared back to win six straight games to earn a 7-5 win to help sweep doubles for the Jumbos.
Up 1-0 heading into singles, Vuksanovic rolled at No. 1 over Lepsoe to a 6-1, 6-2 to double the Jumbos' lead to 2-0. Gonzalez picked up his second win of the night at No. 2, as he chalked up a solid 6-4, 6-4 victory over Anderson.
Sophomore
Garv Bahl hopped into the lineup at No. 3 singles and controlled the match, as he lost just one game to record a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Edward Wang. Djokic was tested at No. 4 singles by Merson, but the Jumbo junior would push past for a 6-4, 7-5.
Maes tallied a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles for the Jumbos, and first-year
Stavros Mastrogamvrakis breezed past Louis Bourn 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot for the first dual match win of his career.
Tufts will have six days to prepare for its next test, heading to No. 23 MIT next Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. in non-conference play.
