BEVERLY, MA (March 22, 2025) -- In a battle of nationally ranked programs, No. 3 Tufts University secured an impressive 5-2 victory over No. 14 Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday at the Bass River Tennis Center.

The Jumbos showcased resilience across the board, winning the doubles point and delivering clutch performances in singles play to improve to 9-1 on the season.

Tufts struck early in doubles, with the duo of Javier Gonzalez and Vuk Vuksanovic setting the tone with a commanding 6-3 win at No. 1. While Gustavus responded with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, the Jumbos came up big at No. 3, where Derin Acaroglu and Lachie Macintosh edged out Josh Christensen and Taona Mhwandagara in a tense tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4), to claim the crucial doubles point.

With momentum on their side, Tufts carried its energy into singles play. Andrej Djokic was dominant at No. 3, cruising past Christensen 6-4, 6-3 to extend the Jumbos' lead. Gustavus battled back as Dominik Knutson took a straight-set win at No. 4, and Gage Gohl mounted a comeback to defeat Macintosh at No. 2.

With the match hanging in the balance, Tufts delivered in the clutch. Garv Bahl secured a thrilling three-set victory at No. 5, grinding out a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win over Tyler Haddorff. At No. 6, Stavros Mastrogamvrakis bounced back from a first-set loss to dominate the next two, winning 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.

The final and most dramatic match of the day came at No. 1 singles, where Javier Gonzalez showcased his resilience. After dropping the first set, Gonzalez battled through a second-set tiebreak and carried that momentum into the third, clinching a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over Marco Siviero to seal the 5-2 victory for Tufts.

With another ranked win under their belt, the Jumbos continue to prove why they are among the nation's top teams.
