PHILADELPHIA (March 8, 2025) -- The No. 12 Tufts University men's squash team battled back from a 3-1 deficit against No. 10 Williams College in the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships at Arlen Spector Squash Center Saturday, but the Jumbos couldn't complete the rally in falling 5-4 to the Ephs in the 2024-25 season finale.
Tufts found success in several matches, delivering commanding performances to keep the team in contention. At the No. 2 position,
Aarav Gill was clinical in his approach, dispatching Nick Agger in straight games (11-7, 11-7, 11-5) in just 30 minutes. His controlled play and aggressive shot-making set the tone early for the Jumbos.
Kerwin Teh (No. 3) followed suit with a strong 3-1 victory over Jack Lee, using his precision and pace to take control of the match (11-1, 11-7, 6-11, 11-4). Meanwhile,
Jared Chin (No. 4) put together one of the most dominant performances of the evening, sweeping Asher Leavy 3-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-7) in just 21 minutes—the fastest match of the contest.
At the No. 8 spot,
Shivin Kumar added another point for the Jumbos, bouncing back after dropping the second game to secure a 3-1 victory over Causey Green (11-6, 4-11, 11-9, 11-5).
Hard-Fought Battles That Went the Other Way
Several Tufts players put up valiant fights but came up just short in tight matches. At the top of the ladder,
Nachiket Desai (No. 1) battled fiercely against Andrew Minnis but ultimately fell 3-1 (9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 9-11) in a match that lasted 50 minutes.
Rohan Valia (No. 5) fought in the longest match of the night, an intense 74-minute encounter, but was edged out by Alex Akbari in four games (4-11, 11-6, 10-12, 5-11).
At the No. 9 spot,
Emerson Wang played one of the most dramatic matches of the evening, surging to a 2-0 lead before Pierce Henderson mounted a comeback. In a nail-biting fifth game, Wang just missed out on closing the match, falling 11-9 in the decider (11-7, 11-8, 8-11, 5-11, 9-11).
The Jumbos finish the 2024-25 season 11-10 and runners-up in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament for the second straight season.
