MEDFORD, MA (April 11, 2025) - On Green Dot Awareness Day at Tufts University, the No. 11 women's tennis team faced off against the No. 58 Trinity Bantams in an important New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) match-up. Coming off a tough loss to No. 10 Amherst, the Jumbos rebounded with a 7-0 win to extend their dominance over Trinity, having won eight straight in the series since 2015.
The Bo's jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after their top two doubles pairs wrapped up their matches with ease. No. 2 doubles pair
Brooklyn Bindas and
Athena Li swept Naisha Rathi and Kendall Cedar 6-0. Just a minute later, No. 1 duo
Stephanie Woodbury and
Natalie Hu followed suit, dominating Ella Baker and Allie Francis 6-0. The No. 3 doubles match was far more competitive, as
Ellie Gershaw and Nicole Kintiroglou fell behind 0-3 against Elise Brennan and Julia Clark. However, the Tufts pair stormed back with six straight games to secure the set and complete the doubles sweep.
Li secured the second point of the match for Tufts at No. 3 against Rathi. She won 12 consecutive games to beat Rathi 6-0 6-0, breaking her serve every time. It was a flawless day for Li, who didn't drop a single game across both her singles and doubles matches.
Gershaw followed a similar trend at No. 2 singles taking down Francis 6-1 6-0. The win improves Gershaw's season record to 7-5 in singles play.
Melanie Woodbury clinched the match with her win at No. 1 singles against Baker. Woodbury faced the most resistance of any singles player but ultimately won 6-4 6-3.
Sophie Wax was the next Jumbo to secure a point defeating Helena Trojer at No. 5 singles. The sole senior on the team showcased her experience, edging out the first set 6-4 before cruising through the second set with poise and consistency to win 6-1.
Hu and Bindas closed out the day in style, each winning their singles matches as Hu won 6-2, 6-0 while Bindas was a 6-1, 6-0 victor.
The win today moves the Jumbos to 12-3 on the season and 4-2 in NESCAC play.
Tomorrow at 10 a.m., the team takes on the No. 5 Wesleyan Cardinals inside Gantcher Center in more NESCAC action.
