MEDFORD, MA (April 19, 2025) -- The No. 9 Tufts University women's tennis team picked up a pair of victories Saturday afternoon, starting the day with a sweep of visiting Connecticut College 7-0 before dusting Endicott College 7-0 as well on Senior Day on Voute Courts at the Tufts Tennis Center.
Match 1: Tufts 7, Conn. College 0
It was an emotional afternoon for the No. 9 Tufts women's tennis team, as Massachusetts native and lone senior
Sophie Wax played the final home matches of her collegiate career. The first match of the day was against the No. 63 Connecticut College Camels. The Camels haven't beaten the Jumbos since 2011 and had been swept 9-0 in their last four meetings—a trend that continued on Saturday as Tufts rolled to a 7-0 victory on the Vouté Courts.
No. 3 pairing Nicole Kintiroglou and
Ellie Gershaw defeated Sana Bhat and Marylove Reynold 6-2 to give the Jumbos an early advantage. Wax teamed up with
Natalie Hu at No. 1 doubles, taking on Mary Ella Prendergast and Caitlin Cass. Wax and Hu started off strong, but found themselves in a 3-4 hole midway through the match. They fought back to even the score at 4-4 and broke serve to put themselves in a position to serve for the match up 5-4.
Hu powered a few aces in on the Camel duo and secured the 6-4 victory. It was a spirited start to Wax's senior day, and their win sealed the doubles point for the Bo's. No. 2 doubles saw
Brooklyn Bindas and
Athena Li battle Evin Cosar and Maya Kowalska. Bindas and Li fought hard, saving three match points before narrowly falling 6-4.
After claiming the doubles point, the Jumbos showed no signs of slowing down and carried the momentum into singles play.
Lucy Mitchell methodically dismantled Kowalska's game in a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Li played at No. 4 singles against Prendergast and secured her ninth win of the season with a decisive straight-sets victory, winning 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 5 singles, Wax delivered a dominant performance against Lily Kerachsky, not dropping a single game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph. The double bagel marked the first of Wax's singles career, an especially fitting milestone on senior day.
Gershaw bounced back from last week's tough loss with a gritty 6-2, 6-4 win over Cosar at No. 2 singles. No. 1 singles saw
Melanie Woodbury face off against Cass in a three-set contest. Woodbury lost the first set 6-4 but came back strong in the second set winning 6-1 and forcing a ten-point match tiebreaker. Woodbury stayed hot in the tiebreak cruising to a 10-4 win.
Kintiroglou found herself in a similar situation against Asahi Goods at No. 6 singles. She battled back, rallying from a set down to defeat Goods 3-6, 6-3, 10-6—extending her win streak to eight.
Match 2: Tufts 7, Endicott 0
The second tilt of the day was all Jumbos, as Tufts put on a dominant performance over the Gulls.
The doubles point was over before it even started, as
Natalie Hu and
Sophie Wax recorded a quick 6-1 win at the top position. Almost seconds later, the double point was secured in under 20 minutes, as
Melanie Woodbury and
Stephanie Woodbury blanked Caroline Sutliffe and Olivia Martinelli 6-0.
The doubles sweep would finish at No. 2, as
Brooklyn Bindas and
Athena Li topped Abbey Fleming and Emily Leclerc 6-4.
In singles play, all six players for the Jumbos won 12 of the 13 games contested in a full sweep of all nine matches played. Hu was a double winner in the match, rolling past Leclerc 6-0, 6-1 to make it 2-0, and sophomore
Evelina Anastasi rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 over Amber Woods.
Bindas earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to clinch the victory for the Jumbos, while first-year
Nadia Khera was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles over Sutliffe. Li tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win at the second spot over Ripley Uyeda, and
Melanie Woodbury breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lejla Guster at No. 1.

Tufts will head to Colby College April 16 at 10 a.m. in Waterville, Maine in NESCAC play.
