No. 3 Jumbos Overpower Goucher 4-0 to Advance in NCAA Tournament

BEVERLY, MA (May 10, 2025) – The No. 3 Tufts men's tennis team played their first match of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament against the No. 68 Goucher Gophers early Saturday afternoon at the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Gophers moved onto the Second Round to face the Jumbos after beating the unranked Rhode Island College Anchormen 4-0 Friday afternoon. Goucher had a strong season, winning the Landmark Conference Championships for the seventh time in school history. Ultimately, the Tufts squad proved to be too much for Goucher to handle as the Jumbos earned a 4-0 win.

The Bo's got the ball rolling early in doubles, taking two sets in just under twenty minutes. No. 1 doubles pair Vuk Vuksanovic and Javier Gonzalez were the first to finish, defeating Gabe Naftoly and Benedikt Rummel 6-1. Almost immediately after they finished, Sacha Maes and Alex Ganchev secured the doubles point with a win over Tadeo Asprella and George King at No. 2 doubles. The final pair of Derin Acaroglu and Nico Tremblay were leading in their set when doubles play was abandoned.

There was no sign of slowing down for Tufts when it got to singles. Senior Vuksanovic controlled the match from the start at No. 1 singles defeating Naftoly 6-0, 6-0. Vuksanovic has been a monster all season for the Jumbos putting up 18 wins so far this season and taking home the NESCAC Player of the Year award.

At No. 2 singles, Gonzalez delivered a similarly dominant performance, who also won in straight sets over Asprella. Gonzalez will look to add upon his seven match win-streak in tomorrow's match.

Garv Bahl provided the match-clinching point and moved to 9-0 on the season in singles after taking down Guilherme Cunha Moraes 6-0, 6-0. Stavros Mastrogamvrakis, Lachie Macintosh and Acaroglu were all winning their matches when play was discontinued.

Tomorrow the team will travel back to Medford to play No. 12 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers on the Vouté Tennis Courts at 12 p.m. Sunday aftenroon. The winner will book their ticket to the quarter-finals of the tournament which are being held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California.
